BKK Day2 , Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha)

September 03, 2012

Again my pale looking face. The weather there is just HOT! Its actually same like Malaysia , maybe because in Malaysia I just use to be in the car unlike here walking around exploring the country. Im sweating like twenty-four non stop! OKay , so day 2 , is about visiting and we visited Wat Pho , the temple of Reclining Buddha. The entrance fee for non-thai , is 100bath per person. I feel is reasonable because they give you free mineral water which you definitely need it in such a hot weather. The temple is actually much older than the city of Bangkok itself. It was founded in the seventeenth century , making it the oldest temple in Bangkok. Of course now they refurnishes and make it much bigger and nicer.
The famous Reclining Buddha , which is the largest in Thailand measuring more than 150 feet in length.  Is an architectural marvel and speaks of their cultural heritage. The statue of the sleeping buddha is simply massive in its size and appearance.
In addition to the fine features of the Buddha face , also of note are the soles of the Buddha feet , 45meters aways from the head , which have been inlaid with mother-of-pearl to display the 108 auspicious signs which distinguish a true Buddha.

Next to the Reclining Buddha is an enclosure holding the four largest of temple's 95 pagodas. They are decorated with ceramic tiles and three dimensional ceramic pieces which form intricate floral patterns.
Wat Pho is also knows as Wat Phra Chetuphon.

Please don't miss this visit if you are Bangkok.
It is just amazing to see that huge long statue of Buddha. 3 times much bigger than the one I see in Penang. Besides that there are also lots of other temples and Buddha you can visit as well.
